Indonesia, a true mosaic of cultures and religions, is an archipelago consisting of over 17,000 islands. The most touristy places are Java, Bali and Lombok, but Sulawesi, Raja Ampat and Komodo are also interesting regions, especially for sea lovers.
Must-See and Do
Borobudur and Prambanan
Borobudur: This largest Buddhist temple is located around 40 km northwest of Yokyakarta and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. It is best known for its many small stupas, some of which contain Buddha statues. Prambanan: The largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia, 18 km east of Yogyakarta, is dedicated to the three most important Hindu deities Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. It has also been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991.
Besakih temple or mother temple in Bali
The holiest Hindu temple on the island of the gods. Impressive site, especially when the volcano Mount Agung is cloudless.
Ubud
The unmissable place in Bali from which a large number of sights can be reached. In the city itself you will find the Royal Palace, a beautiful water temple, the Pura Taman Kemuda Saraswati and the Museum of Balinese Art. Take a walk on the Campuhan Ridgewalk and in the rice fields of Kajeng and Juwuk Manis.
