This stage offers wild beaches, enchanted coves, red dunes, steep cliffs and fishing ports. It begins with a pleasant walk between Almograve and the fishing port of Lapa de Pombas, past the beaches of Carriços and Barca Grande. The route continues through dunes, pine forests and over cliffs to the beaches of Laginha and Cavaleiro, where you can enjoy fantastic panoramic views. The landscapes are impressive: secluded beaches between towering cliffs, rugged escarpments and the picturesque beaches of Lavagueira, Praia do Tonel and Porto das Barcas. One of the most popular beaches on the Alentejo coast awaits you in Zambujeira do Mar, nestled between high cliffs that protect it from the wind. Today, the last stage of the Rota Vicentina Fishermen’s Trail awaits you – a great farewell! Between Zambujeira do Mar and Azenha do Mar, the beaches of Praia dos Alteirinhos, Praia do Carvalhal and Praia da Amália await you, a hidden gem of the Costa Vicentina. The way there leads through a tunnel of dense vegetation and ends in a green valley with the sound of the Ribeira das Cobras, which flows directly onto the beach. The route continues to Azenha do Mar, known for its fishing port and delicious seafood – the perfect place for a break. The route then leads to Odeceixe, where you can enjoy one of the most impressive panoramic views of the Costa Vicentina: the Praia de Odeceixe and the Seixe stream, which separates the Alentejo from the Algarve. 12 km | 4 hours | ↑↓ 230m | medium
The first part of the stage leads along the coast with great views of the famous cliffs. After hills, valleys and forests, you reach the Ribeira da Bordeira and the idyllic village of Bordeira. Stroll through the narrow streets, visit the church and fortify yourself for the steep climb outside the village. The highlight is the view from Cerro da Cunca to Praia da Bordeira, with the wide river flowing into the sea. The last stage of the Rota Vicentina leads to the legendary Cape St. Vincent, the most south-westerly point in Europe. The route runs along roads and wide grasslands where cattle often graze. The strong wind is the biggest challenge of the day. But the first view of the cape will make you forget everything. The Promontorium Sacrum, where the Romans worshipped Saturn and, according to legend, the relics of St. Vincent landed, is a magical place. With the imposing cliffs, the stormy sea and the endless panoramas, your hike ends on Portugal’s wildest coast. 13 km | 4 hours | ↑↓ 120m | medium
In the morning, you will take a short city tour of Faro. Then transfer to the airport and return flight to Luxembourg at 2.45 pm. Arrival at 18.40 hrs.
