Hop on the TGV train to Marseille at Luxembourg station and visit one of the oldest cities in France. After just a 7-hour journey, you can enjoy the sun-drenched Mediterranean coast.
Must-See and Do
The Old Port of Marseille
The most iconic and exciting place in Marseille is the Old Port. It is known for its waterfront cafés, elegant hotels and restaurants serving freshly caught fish and seafood.
The Stade Orange Vélodrome, home of the Olympique Marseille soccer club
Does the Vélodrome stadium, located in the heart of the city, attract you as much as any soccer fan?
The Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde
The basilica, an important place for sailors who regard the Virgin Mary as their protector, attracts numerous tourists every year for its architectural beauty and panoramic view over the entire city of Marseille.
Be sure to visit the small picturesque harbor “Vallon des Auffes” and its many restaurants, and try one of the best bouillabaisses (French fish soup) in town at “Chez Fonfon“. The harbour, which was declared a historical monument in 2009, is characterized by its colourful fishermen’s houses and typical Provençal boats. Although there is no beach, there is a unique atmosphere for swimming under the city arches.
Calanques de Sormiou
A footpath leads down to a small beach that offers a postcard idyll. In addition to the crystal-clear water, the cabanons houses, a symbol of a tradition originating in Marseille, allow you to fully enjoy the quiet life. Calanque Bay offers a variety of sporting activities such as kayaking, hiking and climbing. An experience not to be missed.
