On the “Classic Chile” tour, you will experience the most important highlights of this diverse country.
Chile – a small “line on the map” that is over 4,000 km long and less than 190 km wide. A country that combines so many different landscapes – from mountains to deserts, from dense forests to vast coastlines. And in the middle of it all: a world of flora and fauna that is hard to find anywhere else. Simply unique! Snow-capped volcanoes, endless salt lakes, crystal blue lakes, dense rainforests, glaciers, the driest desert in the world, the vast Patagonia and the majestic Andes.

After check-in at the hotel, tour of the Chilean capital. In the city center you will see the Presidential Palace, formerly the national mint and therefore called “La Moneda”, the historic main square or “Plaza de Armas” with the cathedral and the beautiful old post office; the “Palacio de la Real Audiencia”, which today houses the National History Museum and the “Casa Colonial”, the historic residence of the governor during the colonial period. The best view of Santiago and the Andes can be had from the “Cerro San Cristóbal”, from whose summit a large statue of the Virgin Mary overlooks the city. The hill is part of the “Parque Metropolitano”, the largest city park, where many Santiaguinos spend their time playing sports or barbecuing at the weekend. From there you drive through Providencia, one of Santiago’s upmarket districts with nice stores, good restaurants and modern high-rise buildings.
Transfer to Santiago airport. Flight to Calama in the north of Chile. From the airport, transfer through the desert to San Pedro de Atacama. Take a short orientation tour of San Pedro de Atacama with your tour guide. At dusk, we head to the Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley), probably the most famous excursion destination near Sa n Pedro. Strange salt and rock formations in the middle of a vegetation-free sandy landscape and the Licancabur volcano in the background give the valley the appearance of a lunar landscape. The setting sun bathes the landscape in a new light almost every minute, creating a fascinating play of colors.
On this half-day excursion, you will follow in the footsteps of the ancient Atacameños and Incas. The Pukará de Quitor fortress, just 3 km north of San Pedro, w as built by the Atacameños in the 12th century and w as later fortified by the Incas. It was taken by the Spanish in 1540. From the fortress you have a beautiful view of San Pedro and the Andes mountain range w ith its volcanoes in the background.
Afterwards, an exciting “desert afternoon” awaits us. Set off with your tour guide to the Salar de Atacama, a salt lake of gigantic proportions: 3,000 km²! At the “Laguna Chaxa” in the Salar de Atacama, part of the “Reserva Nacional de los Flamencos”, you can observe beautiful flamingos and other bird species in the wild.
On the way there, stop off in the village of Toconao and visit the green village square with large cacti and a white church with interesting cactus wood constructions.
If you want to see the geysers of El Tatio in action, you have to get up early, because when the morning sun rises over the hot springs at an altitude of more than 4,300 m, the fountains rise up to 10 m high. The light of the rising sun, which touches the hissing fountains of the geysers and makes them glow in many colors, then forms a strong contrast to the rising columns of steam and the surrounding peaks. After this spectacular spectacle, there is the opportunity to relax and warm up from the morning cold in natural pools with hot springs. Return to San Pedro around midday.
In the morning, transfer to Calama airport and flight via Santiago to the Chilean lake district of Puerto Montt. On arrival at Puerto Montt airport, we begin with an orientation city tour. We then continue to Puerto Varas with an orientation city tour. The small town is picturesquely situated on the shores of the huge Llanquihue Lake. The snow-capped volcanoes form the perfect backdrop to this magnificent landscape.
After breakfast, we set off on a full-day excursion into the beautiful surroundings of Puerto Varas. The first stop of the day is the wild “Saltos de Petrohue”, a collection of rapids and waterfalls that dance over impressive formations of lava rock from the surrounding volcanoes. From there, we continue to Lago Todo los Santos, where a short boat tour along the shore starts at the Petrohue jetty. Later we drive up the Osorno volcano (2,660 m). The road ends at an altitude of 1,300 m at a mountain hut – the views from here of the towering Osorno volcano and the surrounding volcanoes Calbuco, Antillanca, Tronador and the deep blue Lake Llanquihue are unforgettable. If the weather is good, you can also enjoy the landscape on a chairlift ride (optional). Return to Puerto Varas in the afternoon.
Transfer to Puerto Montt airport and flight to Punta Arenas.
Reception at the airport by the tour guide and onward journey by regular public bus service with a private German tour guide through the Patagonian steppe to Puerto Natales. Private transfer from the bus terminal to the hotel and 3 nights in the hotel in Puerto Natales
We set off early for your two-day private excursion to Torres del Paine National Park. The extensive tour takes you through the entire park with magnificent views of the Torres peaks, the Torres massif and Lago Grey. On some shorter hikes, including to the “Salto Grande” (large waterfall), you will reach the most beautiful viewpoints in the park and of course get to know the rich flora and fauna.
Overnight stay in a hostel on the edge of the national park on day 8 and return to Puerto Natales with overnight stay there on day 9.
On this half-day excursion, we will show you the small town of Frutillar on the shores of Lake Llanquihue. The lovingly restored houses from the colonial era with their bright floral decorations give the impression that you have traveled back in time. In the interesting open-air museum you can see restored colonial houses and furniture from the early German colonization period as well as a functioning smithy. German cake specialties are on offer throughout the town.
Travel from Puerto Natales with the regular public bus service with a private German-speaking tour guide to Punta Arenas. Here, together with your tour guide, you will change to a private vehicle, which will take you on a city tour “In the footsteps of the seafarers” and then take you directly to Punta Arenas airport.
Flight to Santiago. Arrival in Santiago – reception and transfer to the hotel.
Your German-speaking tour guide will welcome you in the morning and accompany you on the full-day excursion to Valparaíso. The traditional city of Valparaíso is home to Chile’s oldest and most important port; the Congress and Senate also reside here. When democracy was restored in 1989, the National Congress was moved here from Santiago.
The city’s many hills are dotted with colorfully painted houses that provide a fantastic backdrop and give Valparaíso its very own flair. It is not for nothing that the historic city center of Valparaíso with its colonial architecture has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The upper and lower parts of the city are connected by 16 inclined elevators, which were built at the turn of the century (1900) and are still in service day in, day out. One of them will take you to a viewpoint. During your city tour, you will also visit the government building, the Pablo Neruda Museum and the Plaza Sotomayor with its monument to heroes. Return to Santiago in the evening.
Free time until transfer to Santiago airport. Flight via a European city, depending on the airline, and onward flight to Luxembourg.
