This trip takes you to three very different islands – Boa Vista, Fogo and Santiago. You will experience colonial cities, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the fascinating crater landscape of Fogo and warm encounters with the local people.
Flight with Luxair at 08.10 hrs to Boa Vista. Arrival at 12.30 pm and transfer to Sal Rei. The afternoon is at leisure.
Transfer to the airport and flight via Santiago to the impressive volcanic island of Fogo. The island is characterized by dramatic lava fields, fertile plantations and black lava sand. On arrival, continue to the colonial capital São Filipe, one of the most beautiful cities in Cape Verde. Guided city tour in the afternoon.
Today you will discover the rural side of the volcanic island of Fogo on a full-day island tour – far away from the main roads and tourist trails. The journey takes you through original villages, green valleys and impressive lava landscapes that bear witness to the last eruption. On the way, you will visit the island’s traditional salt pans, where sea salt has been produced for centuries. Here you also have the opportunity to take a refreshing dip in the salty water – a special experience with natural buoyancy. You then continue along the spectacular coastline to the charming fishing village of Mosteiros, which nestles picturesquely between the sea and the mountain slopes. There you can enjoy a typical local lunch in a relaxed atmosphere with a view of the Atlantic. In the afternoon, the return journey takes you through more rural areas back to São Filipe, where you can end the day in comfort.
Today, a scenic highlight of the trip awaits you: an excursion to the spectacular crater landscape of the Chã das Caldeiras, located at an altitude of around 1,700 meters. The journey takes you through impressive winding roads up into the heart of the volcanic island of Fogo, where life takes place between black lava rock and fertile volcanic soil. The region has been shaped several times by volcanic eruptions, most recently in 2014, and exudes a special, almost mystical atmosphere. You take a walk through the small crater village, which is slowly recovering from the damage caused by the last eruption, and gain an authentic insight into the lives of the people who farm here under extreme conditions. A lunch in the middle of the caldeira rounds off the visit. Afterwards, you will taste the famous Fogo wine, which is made from grapes grown in volcanic soil and is one of the best wines in West Africa. In the afternoon, return to São Filipe along fascinating volcanic panoramas. An unforgettable day in the heart of the “Island of Fire”.
