Flight with Turkish Airlines at 10:25 a.m. from Luxembourg via Istanbul. Onward flight at 21:45 to Baku.
Arrival in Baku at 01:35 hrs. Transfer to the hotel. After breakfast, the city tour begins at 10:00 am: visit to the Lutheran Church of Adolf Eichler, walk in Highland Park with a view of the Flame Towers. Visit to the Carpet Museum, the Mugham Center, the Little Venice, the Manuscript Institute and a tour of the old town of Icherisheher (UNESCO World Heritage Site) with the Maiden Tower and Shirvanshah Palace.
Visit to the futuristic Heydar Aliyev Center. Continue to the Zoroastrian Ateshgah fire temple. Visit to the open-air ethnographic museum in Gala. In the afternoon, excursion to the burning mountain Yanardag. Return to Baku.
Drive to the Khizi region to the colorful Candy Cane Mountains. Continue along the “Köç Yolu” transhumance route to the remote village of Khinalig (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Walk with a view of the high mountain scenery of the Greater Caucasus. In the evening, visit to the Shamakhi observatory with telescope observation (weather permitting). Overnight stay in Shamakhi.
Visit to the Juma Mosque, the Yeddi Gumbaz domed tombs and the Kelekhana mausoleum. Visit to the Christian Udi village. Continue to Sheki, visit a traditional Kelaghayi silk scarf workshop (UNESCO-protected). Dinner in a historic caravanserai with live music.
Visit to the khan’s palace, the caravanserai and a shebeke glass workshop. Participation in a halva cooking course with tasting. Excursion to the village of Kish with a visit to the oldest Christian church in the Caucasus. Onward journey to Ganja, check into hotel.
City tour of Ganja: Shah Abbas Mosque, Nizami Mausoleum, Bottle House and Imamzadeh Complex. Visit to the Goygol National Park. Walk by the lake, followed by a visit to the former German settlement of Helenendorf. Visit to the Viktor Klein house and wine tasting. Return to Baku.
Excursion to the mud volcanoes and prehistoric rock paintings in Gobustan National Park. Visit to the Bibi-Heybat Mosque and the world’s first ship museum on an oil tanker in Surakhany. Return journey and overnight stay in Baku.
The day is at leisure – ideal for shopping, museum visits or a walk along the promenade. Transfer to the airport at night.
Departure with Turkish Airlines at 02:35. Arrival in Istanbul at 04.45 hrs. Onward flight at 07:10. Arrival in Luxembourg at 08:25
